about

Girl On The Roof
The Old Nags Head in Manchester has a mannequin sitting on the roof, the rain has made it look like her mascara has run and she nonchalantly dangles her legs seated on the parapet three floors up. Once you’ve noticed her you wonder why you never saw her before, no one looks up, so most people pass by below her oblivious of her presence. Faster and crunchier than the 2014 45rpm version, this was recorded at Seed Studios and Bryn Elwy

lyrics

Girl On The Roof

Stop all the traffic there’s a girl on the roof
There’s no convincing her she won’t accept proof
She’s above it all she’s looking down
Happy on the ledge just hanging around
Above the cars above the streets
Sitting on the ledge she’s swinging her feet

She’s looking down, she’s looking down
She’s looking down, she’s looking down

Stop all the traffic there’s a girl on the roof
Waving and pointing will be no use
She’s above it; she’s looking down
She seems to like this view of town
Wave and shout through your megaphone
Nothing to see here so - move along

She’s looking down, she’s looking down
She’s looking down, she’s looking down

She doesn’t need a reason to explain
This is her world this is her domain
She knows everything she see it all
Watching everything she’s not going to fall
But if you ask her why she’s there
Really she just wants to be closer to the sun

Stop all the traffic there’s a girl on the roof
She’s not going to jump; she’s just looking for truth
She’s above it and she’s looking down
She wants to stay above the ground
We’re not going to find truth down there
Got to get up got to get up those stairs – right now

Come on
I’m running up the stairs going to meet her on the rooftop
Get up the stairs
Get on the roof
