about

Karin B
A song of loss and longing and the only unchanging state. Everything changes, the moon, the tide, the seasons, the fashions and the wind, but she stays the same. In 1988 Karin B was a ship loaded with unidentified toxic waste passing from country to country as she was repeatedly refused permission to dock, the idea had been lurking for a long time but it was linking this to the legend of the Flying Dutchman the captain of which is cursed to never set foot on land until redeemed by love that gave it shape. Written in Scotland beside the sea hence the salty tang and metaphor. Recorded at Seed Studios and Bryn Elwy

lyrics

Karin B

The tide will change
But she stays the same
Karin B she roams the sea
The moon will change
But she stays the same
Karin B she’s coming back to me

Cursed as a wanderer she can set no foot on land
With a shrouded cargo and a crew of the damned
If no one will take her she’ll disappear
Into the sea mist and deepest fear
Forgotten she’ll wander decay and corrode
Harbour the peril of her unknown load

The seasons change
But she stays the same
Karin B she roams the sea
The fashions change but she stays the same
Karin B she’s coming back to me

No welcome land fall where she can go to ground
Her position a blank chart she’s lost and not found
Rest on the seabed as one more ghost ship
Gone and unthought of until her secret slips
Bursting seeping spread beneath the waves
No one will ever find her unmarked grave
No one will ever put flowers on her grave
No one will ever find her unmarked grave

The tide will change
But she stays the same
Karin B she roams the sea
The moon will change
But she stays the same
Karin B she’s coming back to me
The seasons change
But she stays the same
Karin B she roams the sea
The fashions change but she stays the same
Karin B she’s coming back to me
The tide will change
But she stays the same
Karin B she roams the sea
The wind will change
But she stays the same
Karin B coming coming back to me
