about

The Wargame
Written on 3rd October 1989, after reading Edgar Allen Poe’s short stories, his obsession with premature burial and confined space resonated with the reported sinking of a trawler that had become tangled with a submarine, the imagery is brief and horrific. This has been recorded several times before with live versions and an unplugged acoustic version as well as the first album. Trawlers are now fitted with quick release mechanisms for their nets. This was rerecorded during the Everything Changes sessions, at SSR and Bryn Elwy

The bonus tracks:
Evolution and change is an important aspect of The Speed Of Sound, from the beginning the plan was for the bonus disc to reflect the way a selection of the songs from the back catalogue on the current live-list were currently being played

lyrics

The Wargame

Silently searching cruising fifty feet down
Sealed orders are opened as the sweep hand reaches high
In the darkness of ocean a wargame has begun

Submariner crouches over green glowing screen
Watching, listening
In the darkness of ocean a wargame has begun

Far from alone the headphones are alive
Echoing with herring shoals as the order to dive
is relayed and obeyed

In the darkness of ocean a wargame has begun

A trawler catches an oversize prize and is gone
A trawler catches an oversize prize and is gone
