about

Uhrwerk
The German word for ‘clockwork’ offered itself as a title for this, the mechanical nature of work and the inevitable malfunction of the so called work/life balance are the inspiration. The new arrangement here has a far more magic-carpet-ride feel that the simple post-punk beat of the original. Written in April 1987 and first recorded in the Pink Studio session that year, there are various other recordings since then all mutating slightly as it evolves -including the live at Elizabeth Gaskell’s House acoustic version. This version was recorded during the Everything Changes sessions at Seed Studios and Bryn Elwy

The bonus tracks:
Evolution and change is an important aspect of The Speed Of Sound, from the beginning the plan was for the bonus disc to reflect the way a selection of the songs from the back catalogue on the current live-list were currently being played

lyrics

Uhrwerk

I lose myself in side your world your cold steel finger grind me down
I've got no time to stop and think no time at all to call my own
We are the pieces in your jigsaw
You fit us into shape and you take our minds
So that we can't see you've stolen our time

If you want to go forwards then go twice as fast
You'll need that pace to keep standing still
We live the nightmare of your dreams
And as I awake the alarm bell screams
I look at the clock and the time it says is not my own but yours instead
